This work theme area main focus is natural resources conservation and territories socio-economic development conciliation, under the perception that this is an indispensable dynamic for rural areas sustainable future.
In order to achieve this goal, ADPM focuses its activity on environmental education and sensitization; in experimentation, research and posterior knowledge transmission to farmers and other local actors, encouraging their active participation.
From nearly forty years of work in this thematic area these results stand out: the Guadiana Valley Natural Park institution process; local citizens continued training for their natural heritage conservation; the Dryland Champions Award win for the work developed in Portugal and Cape Verde; the realization of several environmental education campaigns, especially in Baixo Alentejo, including several didactic materials production; farmers support in sustainable exploit of less valued resources (mushrooms, arbutus-berry, prickly-pear, among others); setting up the «Monte do Vento» (“windy farm”) Environmental Sensitization and Study Centre; and the sustainable agriculture strategies incentive and diffusion.
